Larnaca is an up and coming area for properties and apartments in particular. The main reason for this is that it is close to an international airport and the property in the area is relatively cheap compared with other areas of Cyprus such as Paphos. There are a couple of golf courses in development near to Larnaca which will increase demand for apartments in the location with potential high capital growth. With Cyprus joining the EU in 2004, this has caused a surge in Cyprus property prices and now is the time to snap up your apartment or villa for a long term investment.
Now is the ideal time to purchase a villa in Larnaca. A villa with a sea view is reasonably priced and up to 20% cheaper than an equivalent property in Paphos.
There is a golf craze sweeping Cyprus and as well as the beautiful courses close to Paphos, plans have been approved for three more 18 hole courses in Larnaca(Oroklini), Famagusta(Ayia Napa) and Limassol (Pentakomo). These are being built by a consortium of local authorities and hoteliers. This will mean that rental income and capital growth for villas in Larnaca will expand considerably. The best time for golf in Cyprus is September to March when the weather is more temperate and therefore you will be able to rent out your Larnaca villa all year round. There is a lot of confidence that within a comparatively short period of time Cyprus will occupy an elevated spot on the world's golfing map so now is the time to buy your villa to cash in on that future market.
Larnaca is a bustling town on the south eastern coast of Cyprus but still has an easy going pace. It has an interesting and long history and evidence of this can be found within the modern city where you will find the ruins and remains of the ancient city and civilisation of Kition. The famous philosopher Zenon was born here and Saint Lazarus came to live here after his resurrection. In the 18th century city became an important commercial centre and many European consulates were located here. The palm tree lined promenade with the old fort and the historical quarter give Larnaca that special character.
The international airport is located close to the city alongside a large saltwater lake which is a favourite place for flamingos and other migratory birds. There are colourful pavement cafes and an attractive marina area which is full of yachts especially during the summer months. Larnaca is a perfect place to just wander, sip wine have meal at one of the many restaurants and bars, and watch the world go by. There are fine, sandy beaches in Larnaca but some of the beaches near to the beachfront properties are private. Sunbeds and sun umbrellas can be hired on all public beaches. Main beach areas are regarded as safe for swimming; if they are not, it is clearly marked.
